CHAD LOWERY ON A MISSION
Chad stays busy both at home and abroad.
Here at home, Chad is a long time supporter of Bigger Vision of Athens which has been in operation for 23 years. This organization provides shelter and services for the homeless population that continues to grow in Athens.
In addition, Chad supports The Light, a church in the Rock Springs Community, pastored by Lloyd Craft. The ministry was begun by Saint James United Methodist Church. The Light serves the Rocksprings community on many levels
Far beyond his Athens home, Chad has participated in mission trips abroad to Mexico, the Amazon, and to Tanzania, Africa. Chad has returned to Tanzania 3 times. The part of the trip to Tanzania he looks forward to most is the work he does at The Village of Hope Orphanage in Morogoro. The matron, Mama Helen, opens up her home to children whose parents are not around or just can't care for them. Chad and the others help with work that needs to be done including just playing with the children. Chad and the group see some of the same children every year and support them year round when they are away from them geographically.
On these mission trips Chad has played a part in building churches, putting in wells, and giving water filters and water filter training to villagers so they no longer have to walk miles to fetch water and boil it to make it drinkable.
Chad has his own "bigger vision" for Athens and its challenges. He sees his role as a Commissioner for District 6 as similar to the role he has played in serving communities both at home and abroad. It is all about problem solving. You see the need and find ways to implement the same kinds of community building, addressing challenges, and finding ways to make life better for everyone.
When elected, Chad plans to donate all of his salary to Bigger Vision of Athens.
